Bamboo wants to Provide Access to the Capital Market without Going Through Banks

The investment bank operates in a traditional sector, which has a large addressable market and where things happen more or less in the same way for decades. For the former Movile financial director, Arthur O’Keefe, it is a fertile land for the “disturbance”. “Everything is analog!”
Arthur told Brasil Journal. “Whether it’s attracting customers, building a platform or contacting investors, no technology is never the same.” With this diagnosis, Arthur has teamed up with Felipe Moraes, former director of Innova Capital, to found Bamboo, a startup in competition for a large part of the capital market with the banks.
“We do not attach their business, we attack the market they do not serve,” said Felipe. “If we include more companies in this market and we give access to foreign investors, we really have enormous potential.” To start things start, Bamboo has just lifted a round table led by Global Founders Capital.
The funding, of $ 4 million, also involved Atman Capital, Latitud, and providential investors such as Marcelo Martins, from Cosan. At first, the startup directs its efforts to the Debt Capital Market (DCM) – which is engaged in the structuring and distribution of debt securities to businesses.
In addition to putting issuers with investors into contact, the Bamboo platform also provides data from issuers, allowing investors to follow businesses. The startup – which finalizes its first program, an obligation for a distributed solar energy production company – works throughout the process, structuring and debt issuance to distribution and monitoring of assets, everything by remunerating by costs.te
“In this case, we have done the debt based on the installation of solar panels in the houses. Thus, the investor will be able to monitor the company’s installations and the performance of these panels on our platform,” said Arthur. “If there is a gap in relation to what has been promised in the offer, the investor can contact the company to try to resolve the problem.” According to him, Bamboo already has 11 other transmitters in the pipeline.
The startup focuses on businesses on the intermediate market, which must raise between 10 and 100 million R $, ideally focused on data. “It is a range that is not well served by the market,” said Felipe. “Banks do not answer because they are very small tickets for the business they will get.”
Felipe says that the active control part will really be a product in itself. “No one does that. There are companies that have too much data to integrate into Excel. This ability to do data engineering and transform the data of these companies into information that helps investors to make a decision is A differentiation factor. “
Bamboo can manage all stages of a transaction, or only participate in a part of it. “The transaction that has been arranged by another bank can be distributed on our platform,” said Arthur. “To access the data, we must be involved in the versioning, at least, but we do not necessarily have to do the structure.”
After starting on the debt market, Bamboo’s idea is to gradually extend to other assets as the startup wins the confidence of investors and transmitters.
